Neverwhere: Door by 2x2x2 Neverwhere: Door by 2x2x2
What. You're not Door. You don't look enough like a tiny hobo.

I started rereading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman today. Neverwhere was my second work but first novel by him that I had read (my first was Stardust which was/is? part comic and part illustrated novel). It has a special place in my heart and ties with American Gods as my favorite of his books. It's also the only book that I haven't had signed by him, because I had misplaced my original copy when I met him so didn't have it on me. ):

I realize that Door is incredibly colorful and not nearly as ratty as she rightfully should be, but gjhkjree whatever, I wanted to use colors, man. I DO WHAT I WANT.

Door, Neverwhere, and even Richardrichardmayhewdick are property of Neil Gaiman

That's actually exactly how I pictured Door. And she's got the ratty hair and the muddy hues.
Bitches love colors.

In case you didn't get to see it, Neil Gaiman himself reblogged this picture on Tumblr! With an extremely flattering comment, no less.

This is such a charming, cute, thoughtful, and creative interpretation of Door, coupled with a very appealing art style. Love the little details you put in, i.e. the blushes on the cheek, the way the scarf twirls around, and the fact that she wears a skirt. An artwork that's very full of attitude - Door's and the artist's. =) Great work!

I defiantly like your take on Door. It is much better than the tv show take on the character (even though it came first) Well done : D

Hurrah! :D Haha, I was worried that she didn't look hobo-y enough to be Door.

Oh, Door. <3 Words cannot express how much I love your rendition of her! I actually think the red scarf provides a very alluring contrast to the muted tones of her rags. :)

Don't you love the convolutedness of Neverwhere? Neil Gaiman writes the best stuff imaginable

WOOPS NEVERMIND, I got that wrong, I guess he wrote the show first. Neil Gaiman's screenwriting always throws me for a loop. I could hardly believe he wrote the script for the Beowulf movie.

I actually hadn't found out he had written the miniseries first until a few months ago, myself! My mind was blown because the series was just.. so bad. xD I mean, I liked the Marquis de Carabas in the series, but that's about it.

Oh, god, I know, I peed myself for the Marquis, I PEED. But the quality was bad and I don't know if they actually finished the series on tv?

I'm reading American Gods right now, and it's pretty fabulous. But yeah, Neverwhere is boss, and I too feel like it doesn't get the full extent of the admiraton that it deserves.

other things that are fabulous: this

i've not read this book, and so I don't quite understand the significance of the words Door is saying, but the drawing makes me want to!! My first book by Neil was the Graveyard book- after that it was Caroline.

ffff I like this a lot, your lineless style originally inspired me to try it in my own art as well!

You really should! It's such a good book. C: Haha, when Door meets the main character, Richard, he clumsily introduces himself like "Richard. Richard Mayhew. Dick." (idk if you know, but Dick is a nickname for Richard~) and Door mistakenly thinks that's his whole name, so she address him at the beginning of the story as Richardrichardmayhewdick. xD

trje thank you, neverneverrr. ;u; I really appreciate it!

Ever since I read Neverwhere, I always secretly look for entrances into London Below when I catch the train. /so nerdy, I know.../

I adore how you've drawn Door, because generally I don't think people make her as tiny and as adorable as she should be. But this is just... It made me squee when I saw it!

(Neverwhere and American Gods are my favourite Neil-books, too!)

I imagine if I took the subway more often, I'd be doing the same, haha. xD

Thank you! I couldn't imagine drawing her normal because they always made a point of mentioning how small she is (especially in comparison to all of the clothing she's wearing), so I kind of felt like drawing her ridiculous and small. :U

Ahhhh, I adore Door! She's so adorable, and yet kick-but at the same time. :) Your interpretation of her is both charming and believable. Wonderful!

(Btw, Neverwhere was my first, and to this day, still my favorite Gaiman novel. :D)

THIS IS SO CUTE AUGH FUCK I really like Neverwhere 8u8 I hear so much less about it than most of his other work-- while American Gods is my favourite, Neverwhere is a really cool concept and a well-executed one. Did you ever see the BBC miniseries?

*u* THANK YOU hahghjdr. Yeah, Neverwhere doesn't get nearly enough love, I think. D: I do love American Gods so much though, haha. c:

Yeah! I.. actually have the boxset. xD And I love it even though it is so, so terrible. I think I watch and love it entirely for the Marquis de Carabas. OH BBC MINISERIES, WHY SO RIDICULOUS?
